Personal Notes About Me...
I've always been a rather quiet person. I'm not sure why exactly. Maybe it's just my nature. And it may be partly because I grew up as the only girl with four brothers who rarely let me play with them for fear I might become a tomboy. Since there were few other little girls in our neighborhood, I learned at an early age how to entertain myself—often through reading, writing or daydreaming on our front porch
My quietness often manifested itself as shyness, but through the years, I’ve learned to manage it. I don’t know if one ever completely overcomes being shy, but learning to manage it has helped me a lot. Little did I know the quiet time I spent reading, writing and daydreaming while growing up would show me the way beyond my shyness and enable me to connect more lovingly with others throughout my life.
As a student, I made good grades, especially in English, had good communication skills and a keen interest in people. I made friends easily and became a member and leader of a number of student groups and activities, including serving as the co-editor of our high school newspaper and yearbook.
This set the stage for me to study journalism in college. I chose to major in broadcast journalism because I can remember watching the Mary Tyler Moore show during my high school years and thinking Mary Richards had the coolest job! After graduating, however, I found that public relations and marketing interested me more and have worked in that field ever since.
Through the years, I’ve grown—not just professionally, but spiritually as well. As a result, I’ve found ways in which to use my gifts of writing and speaking to not only create and promote products and services, but also to encourage others to live more peaceful, balanced and joyful lives. That’s why I’ve written the books I’ve written and do the work I do. That’s why I’ve developed this website and blog. And I’ve come to realize that’s why I’m here.
